Help Sandakan !! NO COAL PLANT !!!
Hey guys...u guys love Sandakan(Nature City) huh??..Sandakan, in north-eastern Sabah, has one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the world. If Sabah's map looks like a dog’s head, then Sandakan is somewhere near its eye. The waters of the bay open up to the Sulu sea, just south of the Philippines.

TNB and SESB is trying to convince Sabahan to accept coal power plant in the East Coast, not any part of the East Coast but in a location with infrastructure is in place, meaning nearest to the electricity Grip, fresh water supply, road, a sea front that they can land their coal and use the sea water for cooling purpose and waste disposal. That why they choose Silam and now Sandakan.
The use of anti-fouling chemical in the open cooling process remains a major concern. Both thermal and chemical pollutants may hurt numerically abundant micro-organisms which carry out many ecologically important roles in coastal ecosystems and damage to the functions of Sandakan's coastal ecosystems in the year ahead. A 300MW plant which burns about 750,000 tonnes of coal a year is expected to discharge 500 tonnes of micro particles and about 2,145,000 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere a year and this may cause chronic bronchitis, aggravated asthma as they can penetrate deep into the lungs and also acid rain.
