Charles：So Bill's last daughter is finally getting married. Should have happened a long time ago. How old is she?

Marjorie：Thirty-one. She's two years older than Lois.
馬喬里：三十一歲，比洛伊絲大兩年。
Charles：That's ancient. How old were you when we got married? Twenty-two. What's wrong with kids today?
查理：那很老啦。我們結婚時，你年紀有多大？二十二歲。現在的孩子是怎麼了？
Marjorie：You're so old fashioned. That's the normal age for marriage these days.

查理夫婦收到William Daymer夫婦嫁女通知，說So Bill's last daughter is finally getting married。Bill是Willian的暱稱。英文名字很多暱稱，例如Rebecca、Henry暱稱Becky, Hal等。
查理談到新娘的年紀，說That's ancient。Ancient本義是「古代的」、「舊的」；用來說年紀大，多帶戲謔含義，例如：As we talked about our schooldays at the class re..., I suddenly felt ancient（我們同班校友重聚，談到讀書的日子，我忽然感到自己老了）。
西方結婚通知習慣由父母聯名發出；假如父母已逝，可請近親或好友發出。年紀較大者結婚，可用自己名字發出通知。通知大致會這樣寫：Mr and Mrs William Daymer have the honor / pleasure of announcing the marriage / wedding of their daughter Mary Jane to Bradley Scott Mayne on Saturday, the seventh of October, two thousand and six, at St Paul's Church, Wedsville（小女瑪麗．簡將於二○○六年十月七日假韋斯維爾市聖保羅教堂與布拉德利．司各脫．梅恩成婚。威廉．戴默夫婦敬邀）。
假如用自己名義發通知，起句可改為Miss Mary Jane Daymer and Mr Bradley Scott Mayne (are pleased to) announce their marriage / wedding on Saturday…等。
另一種結婚通知會邀請人家出席婚禮，寫法如下：Mr and Mrs William Daymer request the honor of your presence at the marriage / wedding of their daughter Mary Jane to Bradley Scott Mayne on Saturday the seventh of October, two thousand and six, at eleven o'clock, at St Paul's Church, Wedsville。留意結婚日期一般用文字寫出，很少用阿拉伯數字。
