for a year or two, almost every night is DOTA night... but it does not affect my future. i'm doing well now. So that's nothing wrong with DOTA
Well, it's a game which require a lot of skills, which link to your realistic life as well: leadership, critical judgement, decision making, risk accessment, teamwork, etc. One wrong move will make your team get owned...

kids usually get addicted to dota. i am a long time dota player and i reli enjoy dota alot. however, i din get addicted until skipping lunch or studies. I oso don like those so called pro dota player found in cc. all they can do is to play stupidly and saying unpleasant words. well , seriously , i think dota is quite a fun ,especially playing with friends and winning ....
